Guna district in Madhya Pradesh marked the successful conclusion of a two-day Agri Science Fair and Millet Mission Expo on February 26. Held at the District Panchayat Guest House, the event aimed to boost farmers’ incomes through advanced techniques and innovation-driven farming, aligning with the Farmer Welfare Year 2026.
District Collector Kishor Kumar Kanyal praised the local farmers for their progressive mindset. ‘Farmers in Guna are constantly experimenting with new methods, leading to significant improvements in productivity and income compared to last year,’ he noted. He highlighted the district’s shift towards sustainable models that are reshaping agriculture.
Emphasizing the year as a dedicated Agri Year, Kanyal underscored the benefits of natural farming. While initial yields might dip, long-term gains include higher production, premium prices for organic produce, and easier export certifications. These products are not only market favorites but also healthier options. To promote them, weekly Haat bazaars are now a Sunday staple, with plans to expand to block and panchayat levels.
Kanyal spotlighted the role of Agri Sakhi women groups in farmer education. These women are stepping up, teaching modern techniques directly in the fields. A new e-development system eliminates long queues for inputs; farmers can now book slots online via mobile for seeds, fertilizers, and more at designated centers.
Environmentally conscious, Guna farmers led the district in avoiding stubble burning this year, a stark improvement over previous seasons. The Collector toured stalls from various departments, where experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Dewas and Ashoknagar demonstrated superior seeds, organic methods, and farm machinery.
Progressive farmers and scientists conducted sessions on natural farming, millet cultivation, and irrigation tools. Companies showcased seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and equipment. Outstanding farmers received certificates in recognition of their innovations.
The event drew BJP district president Dharmendra Singh Sikarwar, MLA representatives, panchayat members, and over 2,500 farmers, along with agriculture and horticulture officials.
