Gujarat has surged ahead as India’s renewable energy powerhouse, contributing a staggering 16.50 percent to the nation’s total capacity as of December 2025. Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, the state has amassed 42.583 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy installations, leading the country in both overall capacity and wind power at 14,820.94 megawatts (MW). This remarkable achievement aligns seamlessly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for 50 percent renewable energy by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.

The state’s solar sector shines brightly with 25,529.40 MW installed, securing second place nationally. Key contributors include ground-mounted projects at 17,771.21 MW and rooftop systems generating 6,412.80 MW across over 1.1 million installations. Pioneering initiatives like Surya Gujarat and PM Surya Ghar Yojana have propelled Gujarat to the top in rooftop solar, powering homes, businesses, and industries alike.

Iconic solar parks in Charanka (749 MW), Radhanesda (700 MW), and Dholera (300 MW) exemplify Gujarat’s commitment. Meanwhile, the world’s largest renewable energy park in Khavda, Kutch, boasts 37.35 GW potential and recently hit 11.33 GW production. In wind energy, districts like Kutch (7,476.73 MW), Jamnagar, and Devbhumi Dwarka dominate, bolstered by hybrid policies adding 2,398.77 MW.

Gujarat’s policy framework, from the first wind policy in 1993 to the comprehensive Renewable Energy Policy 2023, eliminates capacity caps and streamlines tariffs, grid charges, and banking. The Akshay Urja Setu portal ensures transparent project execution, fostering over 2.37 lakh jobs. Ongoing projects promise 68.37 GW more, with an ambitious 105 GW target by 2030—20 percent of India’s 500 GW non-fossil goal.

This green revolution not only reduces fossil fuel dependence but positions Gujarat as a global clean energy leader, driving economic growth and sustainability.
