In a sweeping administrative overhaul, the Gujarat government under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has transferred 37 IPS officers, signaling a major revamp of the state’s law enforcement leadership. The Home Department issued the official notification on March 6, effective immediately, prioritizing public interest and operational efficiency.

Key changes include bolstering intelligence operations with Ashok Kumar Yadav appointed as the new chief of the State Intelligence Bureau (State IB). Yadav’s elevation is expected to sharpen Gujarat’s surveillance and security apparatus amid evolving threats.

Ahmedabad’s police structure sees expansion from seven to eight zones, easing workload and enhancing response times in India’s largest city by population. Long-awaited postings have been resolved, injecting fresh energy into stagnant roles.

Notable appointments feature Shamsher Singh (1991 batch), previously awaiting posting, now directing Civil Defence and commanding Home Guards in Ahmedabad. Ashok Kumar (2003 batch) moves from Rajkot Range IG to Additional DGP, CID Intelligence in Gandhinagar.

Gagandeep Gambhir (2004 batch) takes additional charge as IG, State Vigilance Cell, while Gautam M. Parmar (2004 batch) shifts to IG, CID from Bhavnagar Range. Raghavendra Vats (2005 batch) assumes IG, Ahmedabad Range from his prior role as Joint CP (Crime) in Surat.

Nilesh Bhikhbhai Jajadia (2006 batch) heads to Vadodara as Joint CP (Sector-2, Crime & Law Order), succeeded in Junagadh Range by Dr. Leena Patil (2010 batch).

This reshuffle underscores the BJP-led government’s commitment to a robust police framework, poised to tackle urban challenges, intelligence gaps, and regional security with renewed vigor. Analysts view it as a proactive step toward modernized policing in one of India’s most dynamic states.
