In a swift response to the alarming explosion near a railway track in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district, security measures at Godhra railway station in Gujarat were significantly heightened on Sunday. Just one day after the incident at Sarhind railway station, authorities launched a comprehensive search operation to preempt any potential threats.

The proactive drill, conducted between 12 PM and 1 PM, involved the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) under senior supervision. Specialized teams, including the Godhra bomb disposal squad and sniffer dog units trained in detecting explosives, meticulously combed the entire premises.

Every corner was scrutinized: platforms, waiting areas, access points, the railway yard, passenger luggage, and surrounding tracks. Officials emphasized that the exercise aimed to rule out any suspicious items, explosives, or unauthorized individuals.

The one-hour operation concluded without discovering any threats, allowing normalcy to resume. However, vigilance remains elevated, with promises of repeated checks in the coming days.

The triggering event unfolded Friday night around 9:50 PM near Khanpur village, about 5 km from Sarhind station. A freight train’s engine derailed after an explosion damaged the track, causing minor injuries to the loco pilot, who is now confirmed safe. No other casualties were reported.

Railway authorities nationwide have ramped up surveillance at key stations, underscoring the gravity of safeguarding critical infrastructure amid rising security concerns.
