Gandhinagar witnessed a monumental push in child and maternal welfare as Gujarat integrated over 514,000 new beneficiaries into its Anganwadi network through a targeted coverage drive. Launched between November 2025 and January 2026, this initiative focused on pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under six, bridging critical gaps in nutrition and health services.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Women and Child Development Department, prioritized remote tribal and rural regions where access had been limited. Official figures reveal that 255,000 beneficiaries from tribal areas, 207,000 from rural zones, and around 51,000 from urban centers were enrolled. These individuals now receive supplementary nutrition, growth monitoring, and basic healthcare support.
Under the guidance of Minister Manisha Vakil, district administrations crafted meticulous micro-plans, deploying Anganwadi workers for door-to-door surveys. This grassroots approach ensured no eligible family was overlooked, particularly in hard-to-reach interiors.
Leveraging the Teko software for digital tracking and systematic field verifications, the drive minimized duplications and enhanced data accuracy. Anganwadi workers and helpers played a pivotal role, collaborating with local officials to register previously underserved populations.
This expansion not only strengthens Gujarat’s social safety net but also sets a benchmark for inclusive welfare delivery. By empowering mothers and children with essential services, the state is laying the foundation for a healthier future generation, demonstrating commitment to equitable development across all demographics.
