In a dramatic late-night operation, Greater Noida police engaged in a fierce encounter with a notorious chain snatcher inside a high-rise lift. The accused, who attempted to rob a woman’s gold chain, was injured after police fired in self-defense.

The incident unfolded around 11 PM in a posh residential society in Sector 16. Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams from the lift as the woman fought back against the attacker’s attempt to snatch her chain. Alert residents quickly informed the local police station.

A rapid response team rushed to the spot and cornered the suspect inside the lift. When he tried to flee and attacked the officers with a sharp weapon, the police opened fire, hitting him in the leg. The 28-year-old accused, identified as Ravi Kumar with multiple prior cases of chain snatching, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Kumar had been targeting women in lifts across Greater Noida for the past month. Police recovered the weapon and stolen chain from his possession. ‘This operation sends a strong message to criminals,’ said SP Greater Noida, emphasizing zero tolerance for such heinous crimes.

The injured woman received medical attention and is now safe. Local authorities have increased night patrols in high-rise societies to prevent similar incidents. Residents praised the police’s swift action, calling it a victory for community safety.
