A husband shot and killed his wife in the crowded market area of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday. The incident took place at approximately 8 pm on Jail Road, under the supervision of the Shahpur Police Station. The motive behind the shooting is believed to be a property dispute. The deceased woman, identified as Mamta Chauhan, was with her husband, Vishwakarma Chauhan, at a photo studio when the shooting happened. The husband had a concealed pistol in his helmet. He subsequently used the pistol to shoot his wife, causing her death. The couple had been married for 15 years and had a 13-year-old daughter. They had been separated for the previous 1.5 years. Mamta, a native of Khajni, was residing with her daughter in a rented apartment near Geeta Vatika. The accused remained at the scene for about 25 minutes after the shooting, stating that he was ‘very troubled’ by her. The police promptly apprehended the suspect and initiated a formal investigation.
