In a dramatic late-night operation, Gonda police in Uttar Pradesh engaged in a fierce shootout with wanted criminals on Friday. One gangster, Vikas Mishra, sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange of fire, while his associate Saurabh Dubey was apprehended at the scene.
The joint team comprising SOG, Surveillance, and Nawabganj police acted on credible intelligence about the suspects’ presence in the area. As officers moved to encircle them, the duo opened fire and attempted to flee. Police retaliated in self-defense, leading to Mishra’s injury and capture.
Recovered from their possession were an illegal country-made pistol, ammunition, a motorcycle used in the crime, and Rs 58,000 in cash looted from their victim. This breakthrough follows the kidnapping of Ankit Yadav from Nawabganj on March 2. The criminals had demanded and extracted Rs 2 lakh from his family, then sought an additional Rs 3 lakh.
Police had formed four specialized teams to track the perpetrators, who released Yadav just before the encounter upon sensing the raid. Records reveal both arrested men face multiple prior cases in Ayodhya and Basti districts.
Authorities rushed the injured suspect to the district hospital for treatment. Investigations continue as police hunt for remaining accomplices in this brazen kidnapping-for-ransom case. The operation underscores Gonda police’s commitment to curbing organized crime in the region.
