Mathura’s sacred town of Gokul erupted in joyous celebrations as the iconic Lathmar Holi unfolded with full fervor. This unique festival, deeply rooted in Lord Krishna’s childhood tales, drew thousands of devotees who smeared colors on each other’s faces while wielding playful sticks.

From the early hours, the air filled with the rhythmic beats of dholaks and fervent chants of ‘Jai Shri Krishna.’ Men dressed as gopis, Krishna’s playful companions, dodged gentle strikes from women embodying Radha’s friends. The tradition symbolizes Krishna’s mischievous antics in Gokul, where sticks ensure the colors land softly without harm.

One enthusiastic participant shared, ‘We’ve been preparing for this Holi a month in advance. In Gokul, we honor Bal Krishna, so the lathi protects him from direct colors – a custom passed down through generations.’ The festivities painted a vivid picture of devotion blended with unbridled fun, attracting pilgrims from across India.

As the sun climbed higher, crowds swelled around temples, with everyone from children to elders joining the revelry. Rasiya songs echoed, narrating Krishna’s leelas, while gulal clouds rose like festive mist. This Lathmar Holi isn’t just play; it’s a spiritual immersion into Braj’s living heritage.

Meanwhile, in Prayagraj, the Sanatan Kinnar Akhara hosted its own spirited Holi under Acharya Koushalya Nand Giri’s guidance. Beyond colors, the event focused on spreading joy and prayers for prosperity, marking Holi as the year’s grandest festival of unity and renewal.
