On Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Khadi Festival 2025 in Delhi. He reflected on Gandhi’s role in awakening India’s spirit and galvanizing people against the British. Shah highlighted that the freedom movement was intertwined with the principles of Khadi and Swadeshi. He urged citizens to support Khadi by purchasing products worth a minimum of ₹5,000 each year.

Shah also discussed the historical context, mentioning the decline of Khadi and Swadeshi. He credited Narendra Modi for initiating the revival of Khadi in Gujarat in 2003, and noted the substantial growth in the Khadi sector since 2014, with the business reaching ₹1.7 billion.
