Dehradun Police have successfully apprehended a Bangladeshi woman who was living in India with forged documents and assumed a Hindu name. The arrest is a key development in the ongoing ‘Operation Kalnemi,’ targeting individuals suspected of using false identities to reside in the country.

The woman, identified as Babli Begum, 28, a native of Bangladesh’s Gaibandha district, was living in the Patel Nagar area using the alias Bhoomi Sharma. Interrogation revealed her illegal entry into India in 2020 amidst the pandemic. She arrived in Dehradun in 2021, married a local man in 2022, and subsequently obtained various fake Indian identification papers.

Seized from her during the arrest were multiple counterfeit documents, including an Aadhaar card, Ayushman card, ration card, and voter ID card, all under the name Bhoomi Sharma. Her Bangladeshi identity card, displaying her real name Babli Begum, was also recovered. She has been charged with illegal residency and using fraudulent documents.

Investigators are expanding their probe to identify and hold accountable any individuals who facilitated the creation of these fake documents. The police have stated that strict legal measures will be applied. To date, 17 Bangladeshi nationals have been detained in Dehradun under this operation, with some being deported and others facing imprisonment for document fraud.
