KOLKATA – In a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, former Bharatiya Janata Party MP Arjun Singh has warned the Muslim community about the perils they face under her rule. Speaking on Tuesday, Singh highlighted the ongoing chaos in voter list revisions and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Singh addressed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, emphasizing its goal to fix inaccuracies. However, he cautioned that success depends on cooperative administration. In West Bengal, he alleged, there’s zero support from the top, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) facing exploitation instead.
‘Law and order here is in shambles,’ Singh told reporters. BLOs are being attacked, journalists assaulted, yet the government claims all is well. These hollow assurances can’t fool anyone, he asserted, calling the situation unacceptable.
Turning to religious divides, Singh criticized Banerjee’s selective outrage. ‘Chant Islamic slogans, no problem. But ‘Jai Shri Ram’? Instant trouble,’ he said. This divisive tactic harms society and has no place in a civilized state.
Singh warned Muslims directly: As long as Mamata holds power, they’ll grapple with hardships. They disdain BJP but eagerly grab its benefits. Today, their plight peaks amid rising attacks on Hindus, which Banerjee ignores—even as Bangladesh sees similar violence against Hindus without her comment.
The ex-MP’s remarks underscore deepening political rifts in West Bengal ahead of key elections, urging communities to recognize the realities of governance failures.
