Farooq Abdullah, President of the National Conference, has condemned the Election Commission’s move to revise electoral rolls in Bihar, deeming it unconstitutional. Speaking to reporters in Kulgam, South Kashmir, Abdullah expressed his concerns about the implications of the special intensive revision, stating it violated citizens’ democratic rights. He emphasized that the revision contradicts the constitutional principles ensuring every citizen’s right to vote, as envisioned by B.R. Ambedkar. Abdullah warned that if the Election Commission proceeds with this practice, it could lead to widespread protests across India. He also raised concerns about the challenges faced by Biharis working outside the state, impacting their ability to register and obtain necessary documentation. Abdullah alleged that the Election Commission was acting under political influence and urged citizens to remain vigilant against actions undermining democratic integrity. The Election Commission had announced the special intensive revision, citing reasons such as urbanization and migration, with the last revision taking place in 2003 and elections planned for later this year.
