In a chilling incident from Jharkhand’s Palamu district, an elderly man was brutally murdered with his throat slit, his body discovered in a remote jungle area. The victim has been identified as Rajdev Mahto, a resident of Kazi Pakri village under Tarhasi police station limits in Arka panchayat.
Rajdev Mahto had gone missing since the night of February 27 after attending a village shraddh feast. Family members revealed that he consumed alcohol during the event. His wife, Dulari Devi, returned home alone that night assuming he would follow shortly. But he never made it back, prompting a frantic search by relatives the next day that yielded no clues.
On Wednesday morning, locals noticed a foul odor emanating from Kusumtar jungle, a short distance from the village. Upon investigation, they found the decomposed body of an elderly man deep inside the forest. Police rushed to the scene, secured the body, and confirmed the identity through family members. Initial examination revealed deep cuts on the face and neck, clearly inflicted by a sharp weapon.
The body was sent for postmortem, after which it was handed over to the family for last rites. A case of murder has been registered against unknown assailants based on the wife’s statement. The station house officer stated that investigations are underway into all possible motives, with inquiries in nearby areas and evidence collection from the crime scene ongoing.
The gruesome discovery has cast a shadow of fear over the local community. Authorities have assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice soon, as teams comb through leads to unravel the mystery behind this heinous crime.
