New Delhi, February 14: In the wake of a heated confrontation at Delhi University over UGC guidelines, Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh has made a heartfelt appeal to students and faculty to preserve mutual respect and harmony.

Issuing a statement on behalf of the university, Singh emphasized the importance of unity. ‘I urge all teachers and students of Delhi University to maintain cordial relations with each other. Avoid any actions that could foster discord and tarnish the reputation of the nation or our institution,’ he stated.

The Vice Chancellor expressed deep concern over Friday’s incident, describing it as troubling. ‘Delhi University is a melting pot where students from every state and community in India study together. Social harmony is paramount, and it is our collective duty to uphold it,’ he added.

Singh revealed that he had engaged in discussions with various student and teacher groups today. He has also coordinated with police authorities to prevent any future occurrences that might disrupt the peaceful atmosphere on campus.

Addressing the UGC’s new regulations currently under Supreme Court scrutiny, the VC called for patience and trust in government processes. ‘Keep faith in the Government of India and await the Supreme Court’s verdict,’ he advised.

Meanwhile, ABVP State Secretary Sarthak Sharma criticized the Friday protests led by left-wing student organizations. He highlighted an alleged assault on a female journalist during the unrest, questioning the protesters’ claims of advocating for women’s safety and respect. ‘Their hypocrisy stands exposed,’ Sharma remarked.

This episode underscores ongoing tensions at DU amid debates on higher education policies, with stakeholders urged to prioritize dialogue over disruption.
