Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged a thoughtful Diwali greeting and phone call from US President Donald Trump, expressing his appreciation. Modi highlighted the collaborative spirit between India and the United States, stating their joint mission to ‘illuminate the world with hope and stand united against terrorism.’ In a public post on X, Prime Minister Modi remarked, ‘Thank you, President Trump, for your phone call and warm Diwali greetings. On this festival of lights, may our two great democracies continue to illuminate the world with hope and stand united against terrorism in all its forms.’ President Trump’s earlier Diwali celebration at the White House also featured praise for Prime Minister Modi, whom he described as both a ‘great person’ and a ‘great friend.’ The US President reminisced about their conversations regarding trade and his role in preventing a conflict between India and Pakistan, emphasizing the strong personal and strategic relationship. The cultural significance of Diwali, as a festival celebrating the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, was a central theme during Trump’s remarks and the ceremonial lighting of the diya.
