DGCA Issues Safety Directive for Air India’s Boeing 787 Fleet After Ahmedabad Crash

In response to the crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad International Airport, the DGCA has mandated increased safety inspections for the airline’s Boeing 787-8/9 fleet. The flight, AI-171, was headed to Gatwick, London. Only one passenger survived out of 242 on board. The aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumit Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder. The DGCA order requires Air India to implement additional maintenance procedures on its B787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines. These measures include addressing recurring technical issues, performing pre-departure checks of fuel systems, cabin air systems, engine controls, hydraulic systems, and reviewing takeoff parameters. Furthermore, flight control inspections are to be implemented, and power assurance checks must be completed within two weeks. The DGCA will review the results of these inspections.
