New Delhi is set for a revolutionary change in land management as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s government rolls out the ‘Bhu Aadhaar’ initiative. Every plot of land in the capital will soon receive a unique 14-digit identification number, known as the Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN). This digital leap aims to secure land records, eliminate boundary disputes, and foster transparency in property dealings.

CM Gupta announced the move as a game-changer, emphasizing its role in curbing corruption and streamlining land ownership verification. ‘This isn’t just a number; it’s a powerful digital shield against fraud and endless litigation,’ she declared. Linking directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India vision, the system promises to bring every inch of Delhi’s land under a foolproof digital umbrella.

The necessity for such a system has long been felt in Delhi, where ambiguous records have trapped countless families in legal battles. Drawing from the Union Ministry of Rural Development’s 2016 blueprint, the project was previously ignored by past administrations. Now, under ‘mission mode,’ the revenue department’s IT wing, in collaboration with the Survey of India, is spearheading implementation.

High-tech tools like 2 terabytes of geospatial data and drone-captured ortho-rectified images will map out precise boundaries, especially in 48 villages already under the ownership scheme. A pilot in Tilangpur Kotla village in the West District has successfully generated 274 ULPIN records, proving the system’s viability.

For citizens, the biggest win is simplicity: no more shuffling through stacks of documents. A single ULPIN will reveal complete property details, preventing duplicate registrations and fraudulent transactions. Inter-departmental data syncing will further enhance governance efficiency.

CM Gupta reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting every Delhiite’s property rights. ‘Poor and middle-class families invest their life savings in land, only to face disputes due to poor records. Bhu Aadhaar ends that nightmare,’ she said. Aligning with PM Modi’s call for integrated land records as the foundation of a developed India, this initiative marks a bold step toward a dispute-free capital.
