New Delhi witnessed a robust crackdown by the Delhi Traffic Police during the Holi festivities on Wednesday, March 5. In a bid to ensure road safety amid the colorful celebrations, special checking drives were launched across the city. The focus was on enforcing traffic rules strictly, particularly targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol.
A staggering total of 4,929 challans were issued during the operation. Out of these, 1,204 were specifically for drunk driving violations, highlighting the prevalence of this dangerous practice during the festival. Police teams set up barricades at major intersections and key roads, stopping vehicles and conducting breathalyzer tests on drivers.
The initiative aimed to prevent accidents by deterring revelers from getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. Additional CP Dinesh Gupta revealed that meticulous planning went into the operation. Joint checking teams, comprising local police and other departments, were deployed at various points throughout the city.
Beyond drunk driving, 3,725 challans were slapped on motorists for other traffic infractions. Gupta emphasized that the vigilant monitoring paid off, as no major accidents or serious mishaps were reported. ‘The strict vigilance allowed citizens to celebrate Holi safely,’ he stated.
This proactive approach underscores the importance of awareness campaigns. Encouraging responsible behavior during festivals can safeguard lives and ensure smooth traffic flow. Delhi’s successful Holi operation serves as a model for future celebrations, proving that stringent enforcement combined with public cooperation leads to safer roads.
