New Delhi is gearing up for the grand Republic Day celebrations, and with that comes the annual parade rehearsal. Authorities have issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to ensure smooth movement across the city. As the full-dress rehearsal takes place on Thursday, commuters are urged to plan their routes carefully.
The rehearsal, a precursor to the main event on January 26, will feature marching contingents, military hardware, and cultural performances along the iconic Rajpath. To accommodate the elaborate preparations, several key roads will face restrictions from early morning till late afternoon.
Key routes to avoid include the stretch from Vijay Chowk to Kartavya Path, India Gate Circle, and Tilak Marg up to Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. Heavy vehicles have been barred from entering central Delhi since last night, and parking will be prohibited in designated no-parking zones.
Traffic diversions will be in effect at multiple points. Vehicles heading towards central Delhi from Ring Road, Bhairon Road, and Mathura Road will be redirected. Commuters are advised to use the Delhi Metro, which is running special services, or opt for alternate routes like Outer Ring Road and DND Flyway.
The Delhi Traffic Police has emphasized the importance of cooperation from the public. ‘Your patience will help make the rehearsal a success and ensure Republic Day festivities proceed without a hitch,’ stated a senior official. Real-time updates are available via the traffic police app and website.
As the national capital prepares to showcase India’s military might and cultural diversity, avoiding these roads will prevent unnecessary delays. Stay informed, plan ahead, and celebrate the spirit of the Republic safely.
