Parliament’s Winter Session is gearing up for a potentially turbulent second day, following a chaotic opening for the Lok Sabha. The opposition’s strong objections regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in several states led to a complete adjournment of the lower house on its first day. Multiple disruptions characterized the initial proceedings.

Anticipation is high for Day 2, as discussions are expected to focus on the severe air quality crisis gripping Delhi. Alongside pollution concerns, the controversial SIR voter list revisions and persistent allegations of ‘vote chori’ are slated to be major points of contention, potentially leading to further disruptions.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha commenced its session with the Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, assuming his role as Chairman. The Prime Minister lauded the Chairman’s seasoned expertise. The Leader of the Opposition also conveyed felicitations and pledged the Congress party’s constructive engagement, advocating for impartiality in the house’s functioning.
