In a swift operation, Delhi Police’s Ghitorni Metro Station unit has arrested a notorious thief linked to multiple iPhone snatchings. The accused, Daljit Singh alias Dalbir Singh, aged 42, was apprehended near Uttam Nagar after a meticulous investigation into two recent e-FIRs filed on February 13.
The incidents followed a strikingly similar pattern: a suspect deliberately bumping into victims amid the metro crowds, snatching their high-end iPhones, and vanishing into the throng. Recognizing the organized nature of these crimes, officers formed a crack team led by SI Rajendra and Raj Kumar.
The team scoured CCTV footage from Hauz Khas and surrounding metro stations, zeroing in on a suspicious figure matching the description. Technical surveillance and a tip-off from informants led to a raid, resulting in Dalbir’s capture. During interrogation, he confessed to both thefts, revealing his daytime job as a fruit seller in Uttam Nagar masked a dark side fueled by drug addiction.
Dalbir admitted to targeting premium smartphones like iPhones, selling them off to fund his habits in a vicious cycle of crime. Police records paint him as a ‘bad character’ active since 2008, with nine cases against him across various stations including six at Ghitorni Metro alone.
Authorities have remanded him to judicial custody while probing his family ties and potential accomplices. This arrest underscores Delhi Police’s commitment to curbing metro thefts, a growing menace for daily commuters. Enhanced patrols and CCTV analysis are set to intensify, promising safer travels for the public.
