New Delhi witnessed a swift police action on Wednesday when officers from Kotwali station arrested a young man exploiting a forged National Investigation Agency (NIA) identity card to dupe desperate job seekers. The suspect was apprehended near Delhi Chalo Park behind the iconic Red Fort during a routine patrol.

The operation unfolded when a suspicious vehicle caught the attention of the patrolling team. Inside, alongside the accused, was a minor from an economically disadvantaged family. The child was promptly handed over to his relatives after initial verification.

A thorough search revealed a counterfeit NIA ID card in the man’s possession. Preliminary checks confirmed its falsity, with officials emphasizing that the NIA does not issue such documents. This fake credential was the cornerstone of his scam, used to intimidate and lure victims with promises of government jobs.

Interrogations painted a clearer picture. The accused had enticed the minor’s family in Kashmir with job prospects in the capital, extracting advance payments amid their financial struggles. The duo arrived in Delhi on February 12, checking into a guesthouse near Jama Masjid.

He feigned connections in the city to scout opportunities, but delivered nothing substantial. His erratic movements raised red flags, prompting police surveillance. Contradictions in his statements and documents led to the exposure of the forgery.

Delhi Police have registered a case under charges of cheating and forgery. Joint interrogations with special cells, intelligence agencies, and other departments are underway. Investigators are now probing the full extent of his fraudulent activities, determining how many others fell victim to this brazen scheme. The case remains under active investigation, underscoring the persistent threat of job scams in urban India.
