In a major breakthrough against real estate fraud in the national capital, Delhi Police’s Dwarka South team has arrested a husband-wife duo from Greater Noida. The couple allegedly duped multiple buyers by selling the same flat repeatedly, pocketing crores in the process.
The scam came to light after two cheating complaints were filed at Dwarka South police station earlier this year. Victims reported that a woman had entered into ‘agreement to sell’ deals with them for her flat, collected advance payments, but neither executed the registry nor refunded the money. Cases were registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and a detailed investigation was launched.
Recognizing the scam’s scale, a special team was formed under the supervision of Inspector Rajesh Kumar Sah and ACP Dwarka Kishor Kumar Rewala. The team, comprising SI Naveen Yadav, ASI Mahavir, HC Praveen Yadav, HC Bhushan, and WPC Rupali Devi, used technical surveillance and informant tips to track down the accused.
The raid in Greater Noida led to the arrest of Naresh Kumar Sikri (57) and his wife Sharda Sikri (55). Sharda had been declared a proclaimed offender by Dwarka Court on September 24, 2025, with her anticipatory bail plea already rejected.
During interrogation, the couple confessed to mortgaging their flat to a bank and then fraudulently selling it to multiple buyers to arrange funds for settlement. Police estimate the fraud at Rs 2-2.5 crore. After legal formalities, both were sent to judicial custody.
Investigators revealed the couple had cheated others in similar scams before. Efforts are underway to identify additional victims and recover defrauded amounts. Further interrogations may uncover more details in this brazen property racket.
