In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Delhi Police’s Crime Branch Anti-Narcotics Task Force seized 1.504 kilograms of smack/heroin valued at approximately 7.5 crore rupees in the international market. The operation, conducted late Tuesday night near Bhopura Border, led to the arrest of three individuals, including a husband-wife duo.
Acting on a tip-off, police learned that Arif, a resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, was transporting a large consignment of heroin for distribution in Ghaziabad and Delhi areas. Officers promptly launched surveillance in the Bhopura Border vicinity, focusing on a suspicious WagonR taxi approaching from Ghaziabad.
Under the leadership of Inspector Vikas Pannu and supervision of ACP Satendra Mohan, a specialized team utilized advanced technical and human intelligence to intercept the vehicle. Upon stopping the car, Arif Khan (36) and his wife Shikha Ali (30) were detained. A search revealed 303 grams of heroin in their possession, with an additional 1,007 grams hidden in a bag on the rear seat.
Interrogation disclosed that the couple often used family trips as a cover to smuggle drugs under the cover of darkness, evading suspicion. Further probing led to the arrest of their receiver, Jummam (32) from JJ Colony, Bhalaswa Dairy, Delhi. From his location, 194 grams more heroin was recovered, bringing the total seizure to 1,504 grams.
Investigations revealed Arif turned to trafficking after losing his job during the COVID period and starting a taxi service, eventually linking up with a Bareilly-based kingpin. Jummam was responsible for packaging and local distribution.
This bust has disrupted a significant drug network operating in Delhi-NCR. Police are now tracing the entire supply chain and identifying accomplices in other states, with more arrests expected soon.
