New Delhi’s law enforcement has struck again with a swift breakthrough in a brazen robbery case in Sagarpur. The Anti-Snatching Cell of the Southwest District Police, in collaboration with Sagarpur Police Station, apprehended two notorious criminals responsible for a shocking street heist.
The suspects, identified as Sumit Nagpal, 34, from Dashrathpuri, and Gaurav alias Totla, 31, from Vijay Enclave, Dabri, were nabbed after a meticulous investigation. The incident unfolded on the night of January 18 around 10:15 PM. Victim M. Kumar was riding his bike home when the duo suddenly blocked his path near the Dashrathpuri drain.
As Kumar slammed on the brakes, the robbers grabbed him, snatching Rs 680 from his pocket. But they didn’t stop there. Threatening him with dire consequences, they forced him to transfer Rs 3,200 via PhonePe to their account before fleeing into the night.
Sagarpur Police Station promptly registered an FIR and launched a joint task force with the Anti-Snatching Cell. Led by Inspector Hari Singh, with oversight from ACP Anil Kumar of Delhi Cantt, the team included PSI Mukesh, Head Constable Sumer, Head Constable Arun, Constable Nitin, and Constable Anil.
Investigators scoured footage from over 50 CCTV cameras within a 3-kilometer radius of the crime scene. Combining technical surveillance, secret intelligence, and manual tracking, they zeroed in on the perpetrators. Relentless efforts led to the duo’s arrest.
During interrogation, both confessed to the crime, revealing their motive: quick cash to fuel drug addictions. Police recovered the stolen money from their possession.
This operation underscores Delhi Police’s commitment to curbing street crimes through technology and teamwork. Residents of Sagarpur and surrounding areas can breathe easier knowing such threats are being neutralized promptly. Authorities continue to probe for potential accomplices or prior offenses by the arrested men.
