New Delhi witnessed a shocking incident of racial abuse in Malviya Nagar, where three girls from Arunachal Pradesh faced vile slurs from their neighbors. Delhi Police swiftly acted, arresting the accused couple, Harsh Singh and Ruby Jain, five days after the altercation.

The episode unfolded on February 20 when the girls called an electrician to install an air conditioner in their fourth-floor rental flat. Drilling work caused dust and debris to fall on the floor below, irking the neighbors. What started as a dispute over the mess quickly escalated into a torrent of racial insults targeting the girls and the Northeast community.

Eyewitness accounts and a viral video captured the couple hurling abuses, calling the girls ‘corona’ and other derogatory terms linked to their ethnicity. The footage spread like wildfire on social media, drawing widespread outrage.

Delhi Police registered an FIR against the duo under multiple sections, including those for promoting enmity and outraging modesty. A senior ACP-rank officer is leading the probe, with top brass monitoring closely.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu condemned the act vehemently, urging Delhi Police Commissioner for swift justice. Meghalaya’s CM echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the persistent issue of discrimination against Northeasterners in the capital.

This arrest sends a strong message against racial prejudice in India’s diverse urban centers. Authorities assure thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrators face the full force of law, while community leaders call for sensitization programs to curb such biases.
