New Delhi, February 16: In a decisive move to uplift slum dwellers, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood conducted a thorough inspection of the residential flats in Bhalswa Vijay Chowk area. The site, home to around 1,700 units built in 2014, revealed a grim picture—most flats stood empty and in dilapidated condition, resembling ruins after years of neglect.

Speaking to reporters on site, Sood emphasized the Aam Aadmi Party government’s commitment to providing dignified housing. ‘Our administration is working at breakneck speed to replace slums with proper homes,’ he declared. He issued strict directives to officials: conduct detailed technical audits of every flat and kickstart repair works immediately. Priority must go to structurally weak buildings to avert any potential accidents.

Sood highlighted the need to restore essential amenities like electricity, water supply, sewerage, and roads. These flats were originally constructed for rehabilitating slum families, but delays in allotment left them abandoned. Now, with repairs underway, eligible families will soon receive keys to their new homes.

The minister assured transparency in the allotment process, vowing zero tolerance for irregularities. ‘We won’t force slum residents into temporary plots or inconvenient locations. Our goal is safe, clean, and organized permanent housing,’ he said. This initiative underscores Delhi’s push towards slum-free urban living, ensuring no family lives in subhuman conditions.

Years of inaction have turned potential homes into hazards, but Sood’s visit signals a turning point. Officials have been tasked with expedited handovers, promising a brighter future for thousands.
