This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between metro stations and final destinations, making public transport more seamless for millions of commuters in the national capital.
The new service will allow passengers to book Sahkar Taxis directly through the Delhi Metro app or at designated kiosks within stations. Fares will be dynamically priced based on distance and demand, with special discounts for frequent metro users. This integration is expected to roll out across key corridors like Blue Line, Yellow Line, and the upcoming Pink Line extensions within the next two months.
Delhi Metro officials highlighted that the initiative addresses one of the biggest pain points in public transportation – the ‘last mile’ problem. ‘Commuters often abandon metro for personal vehicles due to unreliable cab availability post-station. This tie-up ensures hassle-free rides,’ said a senior DMRC spokesperson during the launch event.
Sahkar Taxi, known for its cooperative model involving driver-owned fleets, brings reliability and affordability to the table. The company has committed to deploying 5,000 dedicated vehicles for metro connectivity, GPS-enabled for real-time tracking. Safety features include background-verified drivers, panic buttons, and 24/7 customer support.
This move aligns with the government’s push for multimodal transport integration under the National Urban Transport Policy. Experts predict it could reduce private vehicle usage by 15-20% in metro catchment areas, easing traffic congestion and cutting emissions. Similar models have succeeded in cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai, setting a benchmark for Delhi.
