A massive explosion rocked a residential building in JJ Colony, Madanpur Khadar, South Delhi, late last night, triggering a fierce fire that left three members of the same family severely burned. The incident, suspected to be caused by an LPG cylinder leak, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
According to police reports, the call came into Kalindi Kunj station via PCR around midnight for house DD No. 13A. Officers rushed to the scene and launched immediate rescue operations amid thick smoke and flames engulfing the structure. Initial investigations point to a gas leak as the trigger, though forensic experts will confirm the exact cause.
The victims, all from one family, were asleep when the blast occurred. Jagdish, 52, a daily wage mason; his wife Lakshmi, 48, a homemaker; and their son Jotish, 26, who works as a salon assistant in Noida, suffered burn injuries. Chaos ensued as the family scrambled to escape the inferno.
First responders transported Jagdish and Jotish to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital via PCR van, while Lakshmi, in critical condition, was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre. All three were later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital’s burn ward for specialized care. Doctors report stable conditions for the two men, but Lakshmi remains in grave danger.
Crime scene teams and forensic investigators combed the site, sealing it off to preserve evidence. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections, with police awaiting lab results to pinpoint the blast’s origin. This tragedy underscores the persistent risks of gas cylinder safety in densely packed urban slums.
Local authorities have promised a thorough probe and support for the affected family, as residents demand stricter safety checks on household gas appliances.
