In a swift response to a tragic incident in West Delhi’s Janakpuri, the Delhi government has constituted a high-level inquiry committee. The move comes after a young biker plunged into a 20-foot deep pit on Joginder Singh Marg, losing his life late Thursday night. Cabinet Minister Prahlad Verma announced the decision, emphasizing zero tolerance for lapses in public safety.

Verma took to social media platform X to detail the government’s actions. He revealed that the Delhi Jal Board has set up the committee to conduct a transparent investigation into the mishap at the Janakpuri Line Rehabilitation Project site. The panel has been tasked with immediate site inspection, reviewing safety measures including barricading, signage, and traffic management.

The committee’s mandate extends to verifying compliance with all safety protocols, pinpointing negligence, and recommending strict corrective and disciplinary actions. Verma has demanded a comprehensive report by evening, underscoring the urgency to prevent future occurrences.

Home and Education Minister Ashish Sood visited the site on Friday, meeting the grieving family. In his X post, Sood expressed profound sorrow over the young man’s death, who worked at a private bank. He assured that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the entire government stand with the family. Investigations are underway, with promises of severe punishment for those responsible.

The incident has sparked outrage over ongoing construction hazards in the national capital. Eyewitnesses reported the pit was part of Jal Board’s sewer work, poorly marked and unguarded. As the probe unfolds, residents demand better oversight to safeguard lives amid urban development projects. The government vows accountability, but questions linger on implementation.
