New Delhi’s air quality battle has received a significant boost, thanks to innovative measures at the city’s metro stations. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday that all 143 elevated metro stations in the Delhi region now feature mist spray systems or anti-smog guns, a milestone achieved ahead of schedule.
This initiative underscores the Delhi government’s unwavering commitment to combating air pollution, a top priority amid the capital’s persistent smog challenges. Gupta commended the Delhi Metro for installing 131 mist spray systems and 12 anti-smog guns across busy on-road and off-road elevated stations. Where technical constraints prevented mist sprays, anti-smog guns were deployed to ensure comprehensive coverage.
The rollout covers 89 on-road and 54 off-road stations, promising cleaner air for millions of daily commuters and residents. Beyond pollution control, the government is beautifying the cityscape. Artwork adorning 50 metro pillars depicts nature, flowers, birds, and Indian cultural symbols, enhancing Delhi’s aesthetic appeal.
‘Our vision extends beyond mere pollution reduction,’ Gupta emphasized. ‘We aim to transform Delhi into a vibrant, world-class metropolis.’ She highlighted the collaborative efforts of various departments, stressing that coordinated action is key to a cleaner capital.
As winter smog looms, these proactive steps signal a multi-faceted approach to environmental protection and urban renewal, setting a precedent for other cities grappling with similar issues.
