New Delhi witnessed a significant milestone in urban transportation on Friday as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the state-of-the-art Electric Receiving Substation near Rashtrapati Bhavan, a key upgrade for the Delhi Metro network.

The facility, developed over 18 months with cutting-edge technology, promises uninterrupted power supply to multiple metro lines, ensuring seamless operations amid the system’s rapid expansion. CM Gupta extended hearty congratulations to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for this achievement and pledged full financial and administrative backing for future projects.

Speaking to the media, Gupta highlighted the substation’s role in preventing power shortages. ‘Delhi Metro has emerged as a symbol of reliability in the country,’ she stated, emphasizing its growth without supply disruptions.

Dubbed the lifeline of the capital, the metro ferries around 3.5 million passengers daily, swelling to 6.5 million with interchanges. Gupta reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing public transport, including new corridors recently approved by the cabinet at a cost of over Rs 12,000 crore.

The event also featured a tree-planting initiative by the CM, who engaged with officials on the substation’s operations. Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, also overseeing transport and IT, graced the occasion.

This development underscores Delhi’s push towards efficient, sustainable mobility as the metro network continues to expand, connecting more corners of the city with world-class infrastructure.
