In a major boost to Delhi’s public transport infrastructure, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a cabinet meeting that greenlit Metro Phase V(A), introducing three new corridors spanning 16 kilometers with 13 stations. The ambitious project, pegged at a staggering Rs 12,014.91 crore, sees the Delhi government contributing Rs 2,940.46 crore, with completion targeted for 2028.

CM Gupta expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, linking the initiative to his ‘7-C Vision’ for shared, accessible, convenient, jam-free, energetic, clean, and state-of-the-art transport. She emphasized its role in achieving environmental goals like net-zero emissions, underscoring the government’s commitment to a world-class, pollution-free capital in line with ‘Viksit Bharat’.

The approved corridors include RK Ashram to Indraprastha via Central Vista (9.913 km, 9 stations, Rs 9,570.40 crore), Aerocity to IGI Domestic Terminal-1 (2.26 km, 1 station, Rs 1,419.64 crore), and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj (3.9 km, 3 stations, Rs 1,024.87 crore). Of the 13 stations, 10 will be underground and 3 elevated, ensuring seamless integration with the existing network.

The standout RK Ashram-Indraprastha line will connect key administrative hubs like Central Secretariat, CCS Buildings, India Gate, and cultural sites such as War Memorial and Bharat Mandapam. Daily, it will benefit around 60,000 employees and 2 lakh commuters, slashing pollution from fossil fuels and easing traffic in vital areas.

This airport connector from Aerocity to Terminal-1 promises swift metro access for flyers, reducing reliance on cabs and private vehicles while alleviating airport traffic. Meanwhile, the Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj route will enhance connectivity in south and southeast Delhi, promoting efficient local travel.

Delhi Metro’s expansion is pivotal for holistic urban growth, making transport safer, greener, and more efficient. By curbing private vehicle use, it promises smoother commutes, less congestion, and cleaner air, positioning Delhi as a global metropolis.
