In a proactive step towards maternal and child welfare, health officials in Damoh district organized a comprehensive awareness session for pregnant women under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). The event, held at a local community center, drew dozens of expectant mothers eager to learn about essential health and nutrition practices.

Experts from the district health department emphasized the critical role of balanced diets during pregnancy. They detailed the benefits of iron-rich foods like spinach and lentils, alongside folic acid sources such as green leafy vegetables. Attendees were educated on the PMMVY benefits, including direct cash transfers to support nutrition and rest, ensuring first-time mothers receive Rs 5,000 in installments.

The session covered warning signs of complications, the importance of regular check-ups, and postnatal care. Interactive Q&A segments allowed women to voice concerns, from managing morning sickness to preparing for delivery. Local ASHA workers distributed informational pamphlets and enrollment forms, streamlining access to the scheme.

District Collector praised the initiative, noting its alignment with national goals to reduce maternal mortality. ‘Empowering women with knowledge is key to healthier futures,’ she stated. Similar drives are planned across blocks, aiming to cover 80% of eligible beneficiaries by year-end.

This effort underscores PMMVY’s impact since its 2017 launch, having disbursed over Rs 15,000 crore nationwide. In Damoh, registrations have surged 25% this quarter, signaling growing awareness and trust in government programs.
