Coastal Andhra Pradesh is on high alert as Cyclone Montha intensifies and approaches the shoreline. To safeguard its residents, the state administration has imposed a night curfew and a comprehensive ban on vehicle movement in seven coastal districts. The severe cyclonic storm is predicted to unleash winds of up to 110 kmph and heavy rains, affecting not only Andhra Pradesh but also parts of Odisha and northern Tamil Nadu.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has officially announced the commencement of the landfall process for Storm Montha, an event anticipated to span the next few hours. As of Tuesday afternoon, the cyclone was located a short distance off the coast of Machilipatnam. In response, authorities have halted all road traffic, except for emergency vehicles, in Krishna, Eluru, East Godavari, West Godavari, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, and designated areas of Alluri Sitarama Raju. This measure is effective throughout the night and into the early morning.

Additionally, a night curfew has been instituted as a precautionary measure in the affected districts. Essential services personnel are exempt, but the general public is instructed to remain indoors. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed and follow all safety guidelines provided by the RTGS. The cyclone is expected to make landfall near Kakinada tonight. Coordinated efforts are underway, with 25 NDRF teams positioned to respond to the impact. Air and rail services have faced significant cancellations, underscoring the severity of the situation.
