The Madhya Pradesh government is responding strongly to the deaths of children linked to cough syrup. Dr. Praveen Soni, a pediatrician posted at the Civil Hospital in Parasia, Chhindwara, has been suspended following his arrest related to the incident.

The deaths of 11 children are attributed to the toxic Coldrif syrup prescribed by Dr. Soni. The incident has sparked widespread concern across the state, and an investigation is in progress. The inquiry indicated that the medications prescribed by Dr. Soni had detrimental effects on the infants’ kidneys, leading to their demise.

According to the Health Commissioner, Dr. Soni was found to be conducting private practice. During this, he prescribed certain medications, and some children suffered adverse reactions, including fever and issues with urination, which tragically resulted in some deaths.

A case has been registered against Dr. Soni under relevant sections of the law, including the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The doctor had treated the majority of the children affected by the syrup and had prescribed the Coldrif medication. The pharmaceutical company based in Tamil Nadu, Srisan Pharmaceuticals, has also been made a primary accused in the case, and the doctor is currently in police custody.
