The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation’s decision to ban meat sales during Independence Day and religious festivals sparked controversy, leading to a protest by AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel. Jaleel organized a ‘biryani party’ as a form of protest, criticizing the Maharashtra Chief Minister for not addressing the issue. The meat ban was implemented on August 15 and 20, coinciding with significant cultural events. Jaleel asserted that the government should not regulate individual dietary habits and highlighted the importance of personal freedoms. The party included both chicken biryani and a vegetarian dish to showcase inclusivity. AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi also condemned similar actions by other municipal corporations, stating that these bans violated people’s rights to privacy, liberty, and cultural practices.
