A controversial incident in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, has been brought to public attention following the circulation of a video showing a BJP leader assaulting a Dalit engineer with a shoe. The event occurred at the electricity department, where the leader is accused of using caste-based insults. The victim, Superintending Engineer Lal Singh, stated that roughly twenty individuals entered his office and initiated an unprovoked attack. He identified former BJP Divisional President Munna Bahadur Singh as being among the attackers. The video clip captures Munna Singh arguing with officials, initially trying to physically accost the engineer before proceeding to strike him repeatedly with a shoe. According to the engineer, Munna Bahadur Singh and his supporters attacked him without any justification, hitting him with a shoe and punching him. Munna Bahadur Singh, in his defense, stated he was at the office to address issues of frequent power cuts in adjacent villages, asserting that the engineer used abusive language after they threatened a sit-in demonstration.
