In a bold move ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir announced that the party will field candidates on all 294 seats independently, marking a clear break from any alliance talks with the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Speaking exclusively to reporters in Katwa on February 11, Mir emphasized the party’s readiness and slammed both TMC and BJP for failing the people. ‘After 20 years, Congress is back in full force in Bengal. We will contest every single seat,’ he declared.

The decision comes after TMC went solo in the Lok Sabha polls, leaving Congress out in the cold. Now, Congress is reciprocating by charting its own path. Mir highlighted the party’s manifesto, currently in its final stages, crafted through extensive consultations with Bengal’s voters.

‘Our manifesto addresses the real issues plaguing the state – from TMC’s 15 years of governance lapses to BJP’s unfulfilled promises after a decade in Delhi,’ Mir said. He assured that top leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will hit the campaign trail to rally support.

Congress aims to position itself as the true alternative, promising to end what Mir called ‘match-fixing’ politics between regional heavyweights and national rivals. With preparations in top gear, the party is gearing up for a fierce battle to reclaim ground in the eastern state.
