The Congress party is currently using Rahul Gandhi’s past social media posts to comment on the changes made to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) by the Indian government. These older tweets, dating back 8 and 9 years, are being shared as a way to highlight the Congress’s historical stance on the GST. The party maintains that the BJP is now acknowledging past shortcomings, whereas the Congress has long opposed the GST structure. The older tweets shared by Rahul Gandhi, including one from 2017, advocated for an 18% cap. They expressed the party’s commitment to a single rate with an 18% cap on GST. The recent GST changes, which will take effect nationwide on September 22nd, include rate adjustments, intending to ease the burden on the public. The new system simplifies the tax structure by maintaining rates at 5% and 18% while removing the 12% and 28% brackets.
