New Delhi is buzzing with political tension as the Congress party firmly outlined its position on a potential no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. In a calculated response amid rising opposition murmurs, Congress leaders emphasized that any such move would strictly adhere to constitutional protocols.
Senior Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari addressed the speculation head-on, stating that the party would only react once a formal notice is submitted as per parliamentary rules. ‘The procedure for bringing a no-confidence motion is clearly laid out in the Constitution,’ Tiwari remarked. ‘We will make a public announcement the moment it’s officially tabled. Until then, no comments on rumors or expectations.’
Sources within the party suggest that Congress might soon hand over the notice to the Lok Sabha Secretary General. This development unfolds against a backdrop of escalating confrontations in the current parliamentary session, marked by frequent disruptions, heated exchanges, and stalled proceedings.
The opposition, united under the INDIA bloc, accuses Speaker Birla of bias. They highlight instances where Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was denied speaking time during the debate on the President’s address. ‘This undermines parliamentary traditions and democratic values,’ opposition voices echo.
Congress MP Sukhdev Bhagat reinforced this, clarifying that the issue transcends personal animosity. ‘Our concern is not security, but fear of Rahul Gandhi’s statements. The intent to silence him is evident,’ he said. Bhagat stressed the need for impartiality on the Speaker’s chair, which must operate independently of government influence.
Further grievances include the suspension of eight opposition MPs, lack of action against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for remarks on former Prime Ministers, and unsubstantiated allegations against women Congress MPs. As tensions simmer, all eyes are on whether this motion will materialize and reshape the dynamics of the Lower House.
