In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through Karnataka’s real estate sector, Confident Group founder and chairman CJ Roy allegedly took his own life by shooting himself at his office in Bengaluru on Friday. The tragedy unfolded at his property on Longford Road, falling under the jurisdiction of Ashoknagar police station.
Police reports indicate that the sequence of events began earlier in the day when Income Tax Department officials arrived at Roy’s office in two vehicles and conducted a raid. They questioned Roy for approximately an hour. Upon returning to his office in the afternoon, Roy reportedly pulled out a pistol and shot himself in the chest. The sound of gunfire caused immediate panic among staff members.
Colleagues rushed the 60-year-old entrepreneur to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Senior police officers swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate a thorough investigation. While the exact motive remains unclear, preliminary findings point to ongoing pressure from repeated Income Tax raids on Roy’s properties across Bengaluru.
CJ Roy was a prominent figure known for his rags-to-riches story, often shared through public events and reality TV shows. He built Confident Group from scratch 19 years ago, expanding its operations in real estate design and construction to Bengaluru, Kerala, Dubai, UAE, and the United States. The company boasts several prestigious projects in these regions.
Roy was also celebrated for his philanthropy, particularly aiding underprivileged students and gifting luxury prizes to reality show winners. He maintained an active presence on social media, inspiring young entrepreneurs with his journey. However, his family businesses faced multiple legal cases, adding layers to the ongoing probe.
Authorities are recording statements from family members and employees. A post-mortem examination and forensic analysis of the weapon will provide further clues. The real estate community mourns the loss of a visionary leader, as investigations continue to uncover the factors leading to this heartbreaking decision.
