In a powerful display of devotion, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath plunged into the sacred Ganga waters during the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj on Thursday. The event, part of the revered Hindu festival, drew lakhs of pilgrims seeking spiritual purification.
Accompanied by dignitaries and security personnel, CM Yogi arrived at the Triveni Sangam early morning. He offered prayers to Maa Ganga, performed the ritualistic aarti, and then took the holy dip amidst chanting of Vedic mantras. This annual congregation at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers symbolizes renewal and divine blessings.
Addressing the gathered devotees post-ritual, the Chief Minister emphasized the eternal significance of Sanatan Dharma. ‘The Ganga is not just a river; it’s the lifeline of our civilization,’ he stated, urging people to embrace its teachings of purity and service. His participation underscores the state government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while ensuring seamless arrangements for the massive influx of visitors.
Magh Mela 2026, spanning January 29 to February 12, features elaborate bathing dates known as ‘snans.’ Authorities have deployed extensive security, medical facilities, and crowd management systems to handle the expected 10 crore pilgrims. Temporary pontoon bridges connect the expansive mela grounds, facilitating easy access to key ghats.
Yogi Adityanath’s ritual also highlighted ongoing cleanliness drives along the riverbanks. Under his leadership, initiatives like Namami Gange have revitalized the waterway, reducing pollution and enhancing its sanctity. Pilgrims lauded the improved infrastructure, from illuminated pathways to eco-friendly tents.
As the mela progresses, expectations run high for grand akharas processions and cultural programs. The Chief Minister’s presence has infused renewed energy, reinforcing the event’s role as a beacon of communal harmony and spiritual awakening in modern India.
