In a heartbreaking incident that has shocked Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district, Circle Inspector Jyoti Naik lost her life while on duty early Wednesday morning. The fatal collision occurred around 5 AM near Durga Temple in the city when a speeding car rammed into the police jeep she was traveling in during a routine patrol.
Eyewitnesses described the crash as devastating, with the impact leaving the police vehicle severely mangled. CI Naik, who was leading the patrol team, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the district hospital. Despite immediate medical attention, doctors declared her dead on arrival, plunging the local police force into mourning.
Two others were injured in the mishap: another policeman and the car driver. Both are receiving treatment at the district hospital, where their conditions are reported as stable. Authorities have registered a case against the driver, suspecting high speed and negligence as primary causes based on initial investigations.
Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police Dr. Amrita Duhan, hurried to the hospital upon hearing the news. They consoled the grieving family and promised full support during this difficult time. CI Naik was remembered by colleagues as a dedicated and courageous officer whose sudden demise has left a void in the department and the community.
Meanwhile, tragedy struck elsewhere in Rajasthan as well. Late Tuesday night on the Jaipur-Agra National Highway near Kailai village in Dausa district, a high-speed car veered out of control, crossed the divider, and collided head-on with an oncoming trailer. The horrific crash claimed five lives instantly, with one survivor in critical condition.
Police responded swiftly, securing the scene and transporting the bodies to Sikandra hospital’s mortuary for post-mortem. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for hours until cranes cleared the wreckage. Investigators point to excessive speed and loss of control as key factors, and they are questioning the trailer driver as part of the ongoing probe.
These back-to-back road accidents underscore the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and greater awareness among drivers. As Sriganganagar bids farewell to a brave officer, the state grapples with the rising toll of reckless driving on its roads.
