Patna, March 1: As tensions escalate between Iran and Israel, Union Minister Chirag Paswan has firmly stated that India stands against any form of conflict. Speaking to the media here, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader emphasized the delicate nature of the situation.
India shares deep historical ties with Iran, while its relationship with Israel has grown stronger in recent years, Paswan noted. ‘Our role in international diplomacy is to balance relations with both old and new friends,’ he said. ‘We have always advocated for peace through dialogue, never supporting war.’
He highlighted India’s recent call for de-escalation and dialogue in the ongoing standoff. Paswan stressed that only authorized officials should comment on such sensitive matters, underscoring the need for responsible discourse.
Turning to domestic politics, Paswan took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, pointing to a lack of leadership within the party. ‘They struggle to unite their own ranks,’ he remarked.
On party matters, the minister discussed ongoing preparations for Rajya Sabha nominations, where his party’s 19 MLAs play a crucial role. Consultations within the NDA alliance are underway, he revealed, with strategies being formulated collectively.
Addressing demands for a review of Bihar’s liquor ban, Paswan clarified that evaluation does not mean scrapping the law. Introduced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the policy aimed to curb alcohol’s devastating impact on families and women. ‘We’ve seen homes ruined and atrocities against women,’ he said. Recent reports of home deliveries of liquor in the state necessitate a thorough assessment to ensure the original intent is met, he added.
