Important changes are set to impact UPI users beginning August 1, 2025. The NPCI is rolling out new rules to enhance UPI’s performance. The changes include limiting balance checks to a maximum of 50 times per day. The number of times users can view their linked bank accounts within an app will be capped at 25 per day. Payment status inquiries will be restricted to 3 attempts per day, with a 90-second gap between each. AutoPay transactions will be governed by designated time slots. Chargeback requests will be limited to 10 in a 30-day period, with a maximum of 5 per individual or entity. These changes aim to optimize the system, responding to reports of transaction delays and disruptions, especially those seen during April and May 2025. The changes affect all UPI users.
