Raipur. The campaign to promote the ongoing institutional delivery under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai in Chhattisgarh has achieved remarkable success. Under this campaign, a significant decrease in maternal mortality (MMR) and infant mortality (IMR) has been recorded in the state. Due to the government’s concrete efforts and public awareness campaigns, more and more pregnant women are delivering in hospitals and health centers, which has helped to secure the lives of newborns and mothers.
The major steps taken to promote institutional delivery, the Chhattisgarh government has implemented several schemes and policies to encourage institution
Under this scheme, pregnant women are provided free health check -up, medicines and nutritional assistance. In health centers, special tests of pregnant women are conducted by specialist doctors on 9th of every month, so that complications can be detected in time.
Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Janani Shishu Safety Program (JSSK)
Under the Janani Suraksha Yojana of the Government of India, financial assistance is given to poor and rural women in Chhattisgarh for institutional delivery. Apart from this, free medical facilities, medicines, food and transport facilities are being provided to women and newborns during delivery in the hospital under Janani Shishu Safety Program.
Mother Vandana Yojana and Chief Minister Support Campaign
Financial assistance is provided to pregnant women under the Matru Vandana Yojana so that they can get proper nutrition and health care. Under the Chief Minister’s Nutrition Campaign, pregnant and lactating women are provided nutritious food to remove malnutrition.
Expansion and upgradation of health services
The state government has increased the number of Primary Health Center (PHC) and Community Health Center (CHC) to strengthen health services in rural and remote areas. Also, state -of -the -art equipment and trained health workers have been deployed to improve the quality of delivery centers in hospitals.
Mobile Medical Unit and 102/108 ambulance service
The government has strengthened mobile medical units and 102/108 ambulance services to provide timely medical help to pregnant women living in remote areas. This has helped to take the needy women to the hospital and promote institutional delivery.
Growing figures and impacts of institutional delivery
According to government reports, the institutional delivery rate in the state in 2020-21 was 70%, which has increased to 88% in 2024-25. This has reduced by 35% in maternal mortality and 40% in infant mortality.
Positive results are being received from the initiative of the government:
Maternal Mrust Rate (MMR): In 2019 there was 159 per lakh living births, which declined to 110 in 2024.
Mothers’ words – Benefits of institutional delivery
The biggest benefit of this effort of the government has been given to the women of the state. Sangeeta Devi, a resident of Bastar district, who earlier depended on domestic delivery, now understands the importance of institutional delivery. He told, “Earlier we were afraid to go to the hospital, but ASHA workers explained to us and now we go to the hospital for safe delivery. It is also necessary for the health of our children. “
Opinion of experts
A senior official of Chhattisgarh Health Department said, “The government has expanded health facilities to promote institutional delivery. With the help of ASHA workers and ANM nurses, pregnant women are getting medical help on time. This has reduced maternal and infant mortality significantly. ”
Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai’s statement
Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai said, “Our goal is to include Chhattisgarh in the leading states of the country in the matter of maternal and infant mortality. We have launched a comprehensive campaign to promote institutional delivery in rural and urban areas. Our government is ensuring that every pregnant woman has safe and proper medical facilities available. ”
Important role of ASHA workers and health employees
ASHA workers, ANM and ambulance services have played an important role in the success of this campaign. ASHA workers are going from village to village to make pregnant women aware of the benefits of institutional delivery and are helping them to reach health centers on time.
Although the rate ahead has increased in the rate of institutional delivery, there are still some challenges:
To further improve the access to health services in remote areas. Increasing the number of trained staff and state -of -the -art equipment in health centers. Motivating more and more women for delivery in hospitals by removing traditional beliefs in society.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, the campaign on institutional delivery in Chhattisgarh has been successful in improving the health of women and infants. Due to various schemes of the state government and efforts being made at the ground level, there has been a significant decrease in maternal and infant mortality. If this effort continues in this way, Chhattisgarh may soon join the leading states of the country, where every woman will get the right to safe motherhood.
