In a disturbing case of violence fueled by superstition, a son in Sarwani village, Chakarbhatha police station area, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, murdered his mother. The son, Vishnu Kewat, aged 38, was experiencing significant distress due to his children’s persistent health issues. Seeking remedies, he consulted with local healers and shamans. A shaman convinced him that the children were afflicted by witchcraft, with the source being someone within their own circle. The shaman further alleged that Vishnu’s mother, Mantora Bai Kewat, was responsible. Acting upon the shaman’s claims, Vishnu confronted his mother. When she denied the accusations, he fatally attacked her with an axe. Immediately following the incident, Vishnu turned himself in to the Chakarbhatha police station and confessed. Authorities have commenced a murder investigation, sending the body for a post-mortem and filing charges against the accused.
