Raipur is set to witness a major infrastructure upgrade with the construction of seven new overbridges, designed to address the city’s persistent traffic woes. The project, a first of its kind in Raipur, has received budgetary approval, and the PWD has been tasked with completing the construction within a year. The decision to build overbridges at these specific locations was based on a detailed assessment of areas prone to heavy traffic and frequent accidents. The strategic placement of these overbridges is expected to reduce congestion, improve road safety, and save commuters valuable time, with an estimated 20 minutes saved per road.
The overbridges will be built at these key locations:
* **Kali Bari to Police Line Gate:** A new overbridge is being built with a budget of ₹50 crore. It will span 1.5 kilometers.
* **Fundhar Chowk to Temri:** A flyover will be built at Fundhar Chowk, which will be 700 meters long and 17 meters wide. The cost will be ₹30 crore.
* **Amlidih Chowk to Dronacharya School:** The overbridge will be built from Amlidih Chowk to Dronacharya School. The cost is expected to be ₹40 crore.
* **Gudhiyari to Expressway Flyover:** A flyover is planned to link Shukrawari Bazar in Gudhiyari with the Expressway.
Other locations for overbridges are:
* **Mova:** An overbridge is planned from Khalsa School to Mova Reliance Mart. The estimated cost is around ₹135 crore.
* **Bhanpuri Chowk:** An overbridge will be constructed at Bhanpuri Chowk, with an estimated cost of ₹40 crore.
* **Kharun River:** An overbridge is proposed to connect Raipur and Patan, with an estimated cost of ₹60 crore.
